Life is messy.

I became a social worker with the belief that no one should have to sit in that mess alone.

I received my bachelors degree in Family and Community Services, and Child Development, and my masters degree in Social Work. I also completed a fellowship in Maternal and Child Health during her time at Grand Valley. I have been serving children and families for nearly ten years and could not imagine doing anything else with my life. It takes immense courage and vulnerability to enter into  a counseling relationship and it is a distinct privilege to be invited into someone's deepest secrets and biggest hurts. I am not a fixer. I am a facilitator. As a therapist, I do not sit in the seat of expert. That is you. All the books and education in the world will never change that fact. As a therapist, I do cultivate a safe and trusted space where you can engage in self discovery, exploration, and growth as you navigate a path of coping, recovery, and healing.

I specialize in family building counseling. With nearly a decade of experience working with children, teens, and adults, I have a passion for helping you and your loved ones thrive into the strong family unit you desire. I have experience working with trauma survivors, children with challenging behaviors, young adults aging out of the foster care system, foster families, adoptive families, individuals walking the path of infertility, and much more.

I offer individual, couples, and family counseling appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays in Downtown Grand Rapids at Grand Rapids Natural Health. If you are interested in getting started, check out information about next steps below, or reach out to schedule your consultation.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You are the expert. That means, you drive the bus. You bring what you want to work on during your appointments. If this shifts over time, know that is okay. I want you to feel empowered to advocate for yourself to get what you need out of our time together.

I respect you and your story. That means, everything we talk about during a session remains confidential with the exception that you present as a threat to yourself, threat to others, or have disclosed the abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult.

Finding a therapist can be a lot like finding the perfect pair of shoes or trusty baseball hat. Sometimes it takes some shopping around to find the right fit. I understand this and welcome you to schedule a complimentary consultation to see if we vibe. If so, great--schedule a follow-up appointment and let's get to work! If not, no harm, no foul! Research has shown that the therapist-client relationship is one of the most important aspects of counseling. If you do not connect with your therapist, meaningful work is not going to happen.
